Do you have a passion for animals and would you like to turn it into a job? Then the Livestock farming Bachelor’s programme is for you! You will learn all about keeping animals professionally. All aspects will be discussed, from biology and technology to business administration and marketing.
About the programme
Horses, pigs, cows, chickens... Whichever is your favourite animal, Livestock farming will teach you how you can use your passion to run a company. For instance, with animals for production, but also nature conservation, as a companion, for sport or hobby. This Bachelor’s programme is practice-oriented and subject-based. You will learn how to apply knowledge and insights right away. This will enable you to start working in a variety of sectors, in your own company or as adviser or business consultant.
Admission Requirements
The admission requirement for this Dutch-taught 4-year Bachelor programme is a secondary school diploma, with mathematics and chemistry as two of the final-year subjects and, preferably, a solid background in biology.

Nicky van Veghel
Nicky van Veghel (23) from Vinkel, has her own company:@Horse. She started this business when she was in her last year at HAS Hogeschool and participated in the graduation programme Topklas(se) Ondernemer ('Top Class Entrepreneur'). 'Topklasse was a very positive experience for me. If I hadn't participated in that, @Horse would probably not exist'. Nicky studied Livestock farming and with help of Top Class managed to make her hobby into her profession. 'I truly found my dream job', says Nicky.
Go-between
@Horse acts as a hub in the horse industry. The company operates as go-between between authorities and equestrian business.@Horse acts as go-between for current and future entrepreneurs who wish to start or run a profitable equestrian business and who need advice in optimizing their business possibilities.' So what does Nicky do? 'I advise on matters such as concept development in an existing company or launch of a new company. But I also provide personal coaching regarding management issues. And @Horse carries out business administration as well.'
Nicky meets all sorts of interesting people through her work. 'There is so much to do and see in the world, I never pictured myself getting this far and meeting all these people.' She feels confident in every day practice. 'You learn to be flexible and think quickly. What I like most is linking one client with another so they can help each other move forward.' Nicky hopes to be able to continue with @Horse for a long time. 'It's going really well', she tells enthusiastically. 'It's a great challenge. And it's all mine. It entails major responsibilities, but I am not complaining!' And does she ever ride herself? 'I still try to sometimes, but I am just so busy with work.
