Will you help changing the process of brewing beer so that less energy is needed for the production? Or are you curious about extending the storage life of food products in a safe way? In the Food Technology bachelor’s programme, you will learn all about the world behind the label.

Curriculum

About the programme

During the versatile Food Technology study programme, you will learn how to develop and produce new, sustainable and healthy food products, or how to adapt and improve already existing products. You’ll discover which ingredients and production technologies to use. And you will be taught about different methods to create and conserve products to improve durability of products. Food safety and quality will also be dealt with, including statutory requirements.

Admission Requirements

International students can apply for the Dutch-taught programme if they have completed at least 6 years of secondary school and their diploma is an equivalent of the Dutch HAVO diploma. Once we have received your application, the level of your high school diploma will be evaluated by the International Office and the study advisor of the programme.. Please note that all study programmes except Food Design & Innovation and Floral Design & Business Management require an adequate level of knowledge in mathematics, chemistry and/or biology.

Language Requirements

All students who are not Dutch native speakers need to submit proof of their language skills before they can be admitted to a Dutch-taught programme.

Job prospects

The Dutch Food Industry is one of the largest industrial sectors in the Netherlands and gives employment to approximately 140,000 people. The total value of production is approximately EUR 42 billion. The Netherlands is the main producer and exporter in the world of a wide variety of food products, in particular dairy products. The course trains young people for a wide range of jobs in the Food Industry, including management of production, product development, quality assurance and marketing.

As a graduated food technologist, you can go on to varied careers in a Business-to-Business (B2B) environment, for example:
