The Dutch are famous for their love of bicycles. It is by far the most convenient means of transport in the city as almost all the streets have separate cycling lanes. You can buy a second-hand bike for around € 100,-. We therefore strongly recommend you to buy a bicycle for your time in the Netherlands!
At various places in ‘s-Hertogenbosch and Venlo you’ll find bicycle stands where you can park your bike and there are even places where you can leave your bike with a guard for a small fee.
The OV-chipkaart is the payment method for public transport (train, bus, tram, metro) in the Netherlands. If you carry an OV-chipkaart with you, you will no longer need to think about individual tickets. You load credit onto the card in Euros or add a travel product, such as a single journey, a monthly pass for commuting or a season ticket. You can buy a personal OV-chipkaart or an anonymous OV-chipkaart. The personal OV-chipkaart has some advantages, such as the possibility buy a discount product. One of the products will give you 40% discount if your travel by train during off-peak hours.
