What do you remember best of your studies at HAS University of Applied Sciences?

The relaxed atmosphere, the kind teachers and the fun practical classes at the greenhouse. The events we had to organize ourselves were also valuable experience. Actually, I remember everything. It’s just my personal taste of what was best ?.

What is your current position?

I am Junior Technical Manager at Intergreen B.V. This company is part of a Dutch Flower Group cooperation. We  supply Tesco stores with flowers and plants. We cover Central Europe, England and Ireland and America as well. I am a customer facing manager for Tesco Ireland only. We supply around 150 stores over Ireland with year round range of flowers. As a technical manager I make sure the production site is producing according to internal and external specifications. Moreover I get to answer to all Tesco queries regarding products and it is my job to constantly monitor/improve our service and quality.

 

What does your working day look like?

Either I am in the office, communicating with customers, growers and our Ireland site upon daily production orders/quality and Tesco queries. Or I am travelling to Ireland/UK to monitor and help production physically. From time to time I also visit local growers.

 

What would you advise prospective students?

If you are a foreigner: learn Dutch as soon as possible with horticultural vocabulary. Either way: do a lot of self-study about the market you want to work in and try to do your internship in the specific company you are willing to work in. Do focus a lot on biodegradable/recyclable materials and ways of transportation. These will be the main focus for all the supply chains coming years.
